Film maker Kunal Kohli recently stated that the rise in ticket prices has contributed to the reducing footfalls in the theatres. He was responding to a tweet made by industry analyst Taran Adarshwho spoke about the surging footfall in theatres on this Friday (May 31), as many multiplex chains in the country lowered their ticket prices to Rs 99 to mark Cinema Lovers Day, which ultimately benefited Mr and Mrs Mahi starring Janhvi Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao in the lead.
“EYE-OPENER… CINEMA LOVERS DAY: ‘MAHI’ SCORES OVER BIGGIES… Advance booking status of #MrAndMrsMahi has startled the industry… It clearly indicates, yet again, that affordable ticket pricing [₹ 99/-] can work wonders… And lure moviegoers in hordes *if* pre-release promotional assets excite them. #MrAndMrsMahi has sold MORE TICKETS in *advance* [#CinemaLoversDay] than several star-studded films that opted for Blockbuster/normal ticket pricing in the recent past. Yes, the *Day 1* advance booking of #MrAndMrsMahi [#CinemaLoversDay] is more than double of #Fighter, #BMCM, #Shaitaan, #Crew and #TBMAUJ [2024 releases all]. Ab bolo!” Taran Adarsh said in his post on X.
Kunal Kohli agreed with it and said, “I have been saying this forever. To maintain 100-200 then 300cr we kept raising ticket prices & Reducing footfalls. It’s never too late. Drop rates & see the magic.”

Many movie buffs on X too expressed similar opinions. “Absolutely, most of the shows are housefull,” another internet user wrote. Another X user stated that it’s time the filmmakers re-think about the ticket price, “The makers should rethink about the pricing.”
Meanwhile, the filmmaker recently opened up about how an actor’s entourage dictates film choices nowadays. He stated that today a film is no longer made with the ‘confidence of a director’, but as per the ‘approval of an actor’.
