The Independence day weekend is considered to be one of the most sought after dates in film calendars, as one expect audiences to step out in big numbers to watch movies. And this year, the stakes were also extremely high as on one side was Rohit Shetty and Ajay Devgn’s Singham Again, the third installment of Singham franchise, and on the other side was Allu Arjun and Sukumar’s Pushpa 2- The Rule.But now, both films are not releasing on that day.
Singham Again was the first one to shift, as the film which has a huge starcast of Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar, Ranveer SinghDeepika Padukone, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Arjun Kapoor took longer than expected. The film is reportedly looking at a Diwali release now. And just a couple of days ago, Nikkhil Advani and John Abraham decided to move on that date. They were first supposed to release on 12th July and thus 15th August became a clash between John Abraham and Allu Arjun.
But on Wednesday, news began to filter in that Pushpa also would be moving from its Independence day release date, as the shooting of the film is not yet complete. There was buzz about the shooting being delayed because of the poor health of Allu Arjun, losing nearly a month of shooting time. But the makers were confident of meeting the deadline, and hence they promoted the film with the release of first look and a song from the film. In fact, it is also being said that makers have also reached out to its Hindi distributors stating their decision to move the release date.
Now with Pushpa moving, Akshay Kumar and Mudassar Aziz have announced that they are coming with their film In the game on Independence day. The film features Akshay Kumar, Taapsee Pannu, Vaani Kapoor, Ammy Virk, Aditya Seal, Pragya Jaiswal and Fardeen Khan.
Expect the release calendar to get even more chaotic, when Pushpa and Singham announce their release date, as many films wouldn’t want to clash with these two mammoths. In fact Jr. NTR, Saif Ali Khan and Janhvi Kapoor starrer Devara is already in discussion to come earlier, probably in September. The film was planned to release in October.
