Following the screening, Imtiaz Ali took to the stage, visibly moved, to engage in a heartfelt discussion about the film. Sharing his thoughts, he remarked on the profound impact of witnessing Chamkila’s life unfold on screen, emphasizing the significance of storytelling in preserving cultural legacies.
Speaking to the audience, Imtiaz Ali disclosed, “Rarely does a filmmaker have the opportunity to view their creation… Today, I had the privilege of watching the entire film, an occurrence that has only happened once before in my life.” Continuing, he reflected, “While watching the film, my thoughts were constantly drawn to Chamkila… Before the screening, as we observed the overwhelming turnout, surpassing the venue’s capacity, I couldn’t help but wonder why it wouldn’t happen?”
Starring Parineeti Chopra as Amarjot Kaur, ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’ is set to make its debut on OTT on April 12.
