In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Gippy shared an emotional note from his early teens. He belongs to a family of farmers and had to sell off every piece of land when his father was hospitalized. Though his younger years were relatively normal, his father suffered a stroke and became paralyzed. They had to manage a lot of money for his kidney transplantation, spending three years in and out of hospitals. Gippy notes how difficult it is for his children to never have seen their grandfather but only know him through the stories he narrates.
Gippy further added that his father wanted to see him become a singerbut due to financial crises, he couldn’t launch his career. According to him, the trend in the late 1990s was to make music videos and albums, which would cost Rs 5 lakh. He gathered some resources with the help of his cousins and made an album.

He earned Rs 8000 from his debut show, which was considered meager even at that time. However, he felt it was a substantial sum, considering he had never earned that much before. Gippy’s father died in 2003, and his major regret is that his father couldn’t witness his success. He called his father his biggest cheerleader and critic alike.
In past interviews, Gippy shared insights into his life following his move to Canada, where he took on roles such as a mall janitor cleaning toilets, a newspaper delivery person, and even a security guard. He recalled earning $1000 a month in Canada, a significant increase from the Rs 2800 he earned from odd jobs in India. Speaking to Film Companion, he expressed how he values these experiences, as they taught him to truly value his eventual success.
