In an exclusive conversation with ETimes, Shriya Pilgaonkar sheds light on the evolution of her character in Season 2 of ‘The Broken News‘. Portraying Radha BhargavaShriya discusses the character’s transformation from a principled journalist to a woman driven by personal vendettas and inner conflict, offering intriguing insights into the series’ latest installment.
Shriya began by expressing her gratitude for the overwhelming love Season 1 received from the audience. She highlighted the rarity of securing a Season 2 and the team’s determination to build upon the foundation laid in the first installment.
“Season 1 received so much love. The original BBC show called ‘Press,’ on which we based our show, did not get a season 2. The fact that we received love and are bringing a season 2 is very exciting. I think the best part about the second part is that there is a certain foundation that has already been laid. There is a certain familiarity that the audience already has with the characters. So, the writers and the actors really put in much more effort to try and raise the bar. They also experimented to see what more can be done to enhance the existing story,” said the actress as she talked about ‘The Broken News’ Season 2, which was released on Zee5 on May 3.Further, discussing Radha’s journey, Shriya shed light on the character’s transformation from season 1 to season 2. In the initial installment, Radha was depicted as a journalist driven by strong values and committed to delivering honest stories, but in the second installment, there’s more to what meets the eye.
Shreya said, “With respect to Radha Bhargava, I think the biggest difference is that in season 1, we saw her as this journalist with a very strong work ethic and values, extremely sincere in wanting to deliver stories with utmost honesty. However, we see how she’s been wrongfully maligned and branded as anti-national and a terrorist, landing her behind bars. Now, in season 2, Radha has a massive inner conflict because she has taken things very personally.”
“She’s back with a vengeance, especially because she wants to take down Dipankar (Jaideep’s character). So, for her, it’s no longer just about her larger goal; we see that somewhere she’s not able to control herself. She is very aggressive right now, making certain choices that you will see in Season 2, which are very uncharacteristic of the Radha we have seen before in S01. This is just a result of anger and feeling betrayed,” she added

“That was exciting for me, to be very honest, because as Shriya, I would have never made those choices. But it’s always fun to play parts that are extremely different from who you are as a person. I think Radha is on a journey of self-discovery. She’s trying to understand who she is in this world because Dipankar, Jaideep’s character, is very clear that he’s driven by power, while Amina, Sonali’s character, is driven by a certain work ethic. Radha realizes that there must be a balance. So, she is somebody who has taken things personally and is now back in a very unpredictable, different manner, which is very difficult for people around her to digest because she has changed as a person. Sometimes harsh circumstances and challenges can change you until you realize certain things,” concluded the actress.
