The home
A Victorian-era, two-storey shop and dwelling in Johnston Street, Collingwood.

Who lives here?
Ben Mooney, who collects and sells antique, vintage and contemporary furniture, art and objects through his business Ma House Supply Store, and his Italian greyhound, Goody.

What I did
“It was a disaster when I moved in two years ago, so I’ve scraped back paint, re-painted, polished floorboards, knocked out a wall and installed a kitchen upstairs,” says Mooney.

My favourite room
“Since I made one room out of two smaller ones, the lounge room is so light and airy, and it feels like a home,” says Mooney.

Mooney created the aged wall patina in his lounge by scraping back layers of paint. The vintage “Akari” paper lanterns are by Noguchi.

The ’hood
“Collingwood, despite its gentrification, still has such a great mix of people,” says Mooney. “I talk to people from all walks of life every day.”

Future plans
“Now I’ve completed the interior renovation, I will open the space for photo shoots and events,” says Mooney. “Also, there is another outdoor area that I’m yet to tackle.”

Best advice
“Don’t buy into trends. Rather, buy things that you respond to and spark something inside of you,” says Mooney.

“I sourced the stove, rangehood and kitchen cupboards on Marketplace,”
says Mooney. The green “Chub” stool is by Fearon, from Curated Spaces.

Artworks by Alexandra Nemaric hang in the kitchen. “I see something new
every time I look at these works,” says Mooney. “The detail is insane.”

“I’ve been collecting since I was a kid. My first purchase was a Murano candy paperweight from a garage sale,” says Mooney, in his loungeroom.
