During a conversation with Film Companion, Rahman was questioned about his extensive collection of awards.The composer revealed that all the awards he has received in India are housed in a dedicated room in Chennai. He humorously remarked that several awards haven’t made it to him, as filmmakers have opted to keep them as souvenirs.
AR Rahman then shared about his international victories, mentioning that his late mother, Kareema Beegumhad wrapped his international awards in a towel in Dubai, under the belief that they were made of gold. The musician said that he have kept the international awards in Dubai because it was wrapped in a towel. His mother wrapped it in a towel. She thought it was gold. After she passed away, he went to her room, took them out and gave them to the Dubai Firdaus studio. It’s in the Firdaus studio in a nice showcase.
Rahman garnered most of his international awards for the soundtrack of Danny Boyle’s ‘Slumdog Millionaire‘. The song ‘Jai Ho’ from the film became an international sensation, moving Rahman to global acclaim.
