study sumanwho recently achieved a significant milestone in his 16-year-long career with his role in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar,’ is now gearing up for the next exciting phase of his career. He is eager to take on more substantial roles and silence his critics. Alongside a lineup of upcoming releases, Suman is poised to make his directorial debutsignaling a new chapter in his artistic journey.
During a conversation with News18, Adhyayan Suman shared insights into his maiden directorial venture. Without revealing too many details, he said that he would make his directorial debut with a biopic. Known for his roles in ‘Haal-e-Dil’ and ‘Raaz 2: The Mystery Continues,’ the actor’s transition to directing marks a significant shift in his career trajectory.
Further, his directorial ambitions extend beyond the biopic. He is also working on another long-anticipated project. “I’m directing a love story called ‘Ae Ajnabee,” shared Adhyayan. He mentioned writing the project 7 years ago but had to pause work on it owing to financial and time issues. As of now he is at the scripting stage and feels this is the right time to bring the project to life.Initially titled ‘Airport,’ the film’s concept revolves around a coming-of-age, slice-of-life story about two people who meet on a flight. “I have wanted to direct this film for the longest time. I might even act in it, but I haven’t decided that yet,” he added, hinting at the possibility of a dual role in the project.
In addition to his directorial debut and the love story, Adhyayan expressed a desire to remake two of his father Shekhar Suman’s films. “I want to remake either ‘Anubhav’ or ‘Utsav.’ He has been discussing this with his father for a long time and needs to acquire the rights for ‘Anubhav’ because it’s a cult classic comedy that was ahead of its time.
For the unversed, the 1984 film ‘Utsav,’ marked Shekhar Suman’s acting debut and featured him alongside Rekha in an erotic thriller. “Anubhav,” released in 1986, received a lukewarm response initially but gained attention for its bold scenes between Shekhar Suman and the late actress Richa Sharma. Adhyayan’s interest in these films highlights his ambition to revive and reinterpret classic works for contemporary audiences.

Beyond his directorial plans, Suman also addressed the possibility of a second season of ‘Heeramandi.’ “Bhansali sir has spoken about it unofficially. He mentioned that season two will happen because he wants to work with the cast again. This is incredibly exciting for us. He also indicated that the nawabs will be the focus in the next season,” Adhyayan Suman revealed.
As he prepares for these new projects, Suman remains focused on delivering compelling narratives that resonate with audiences. His foray into directing, coupled with his acting prowess, positions him as a multifaceted talent in Indian cinema. The anticipation surrounding his upcoming films and directorial efforts reflects the industry’s recognition of his potential and the audience’s eagerness to see his vision come to life.
