Six years after the release of ‘Dhadak,’ Karan Johar has announced ‘Dhadak 2.’ The sequel, revealed earlier today, stars Triptii Dimri and Siddhant Chaturvedi in the lead roles. Similar to the first installment, 'Dhadak 2' centers on the theme of young lovers battling societal and caste-based prejudices to be together. This new film is described as a spiritual sequel to its predecessor, with Shazia Iqbal stepping in as the director.
In an interview with News18 Showsha, shashank khaitanthe director of the original ‘Dhadak,’ expressed his excitement about the sequel. He mentioned that he is extremely happy and confident that ‘Dhadak 2’ will have a powerful story. Khaitan also expressed his excitement for young actors taking on social stories and looked forward to the sequel, praising the boldness of the title reveal and the introduction of the new actors.
Without divulging much, Khaitan mentioned that he had already discussed the film with Karan Johar but had not yet had the opportunity to share feedback with the director, Shazia Iqbal. He noted that he and Karan frequently interact as they work from the same office and see each other almost every day. However, due to his own busy schedule with other projects, he had not yet spoken to the director.
For Shashank Khaitan, the announcement of ‘Dhadak 2’ is particularly special as it continues the legacy of his passion project, ‘Dhadak.’ He extended his best wishes to everyone involved with the film, expressing that ‘Dhadak’ is home territory for him and emphasizing its significance as a Dharma production. Khaitan is currently working on ‘Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari,’ which stars Varun Dhawan, Janhvi Kapoor, Sanya Malhotra, and Rohit Saraf.
While ‘Dhadak’ marked Janhvi Kapoor’s acting debut, she recently revealed that she was initially supposed to start her journey with another film by Karan Johar. She shared that there were discussions about her doing a different Dharma film. During that time, she would visit Johar’s office once a week, where he would assign her scenes to practice. Sharan Sharma, who was Johar’s assistant director (AD) at the time and Johar was working on ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil,’ would print out scenes from various films like ‘Jab We Met’ and ‘Kapoor & Sons’ for her. As homework, Janhvi had to learn the scenes and perform them for Johar, although he never called it an audition. She believes he was assessing her potential.
