According to a report in Hindustan Times, DNEG virtual production has replaced Madhu Mantena as producer for the film. Financial constraints led to Mantena’s departure, as he was deemed financially incompatible to handle such a massive project. The film was set to commence production shortly.
The report also added that the costs associated with visual effects and graphics were substantial, necessitating the involvement of someone with robust financial resources and expertise in that domain. DNEG has been brought on board for this purpose, having previously worked on VFX for projects like ‘Fighter,’ indicating that the makers of Ramayana are aiming for a similar level of quality.
Rakul Preet Singh to essay the role of Shurpanakha in Ranbir Kapoor starrer ‘Ramayana’: Reports
Their track record with VFX in major films like Oppenheimer has set a high standard. Their participation has raised expectations for Ramayana, surpassing even Brahmastra in visual effects. Attempts to obtain comments from Mantena and Tiwari were unsuccessful prior to publication.
Another source clarified that DNEG’s role in the project isn’t that of a full-time producer but rather limited to a specific aspect of production. “VFX production companies usually don’t take on complete responsibility. DNEG will focus primarily on VFX expenses, covering around 20-30 percent of the budget, as an example.”
