In a conversation with India today, Hansal mentioned that the focus on box office numbers began even before he directed his first commercial film, and this trend has persisted unchanged in the industry.
However, the filmmaker emphasized that his stance on box office figures has remained unchanged over the years—he doesn’t care about them. Mehta clarified that he ensures the project is made within a set budget to prevent any financial losses.
Criticizing the excessive significance placed on box office collections, he expressed that these figures don’t define the quality of work and are only relevant to those involved in the filmmaking process. He referred to the obsession with box office numbers as a vulgar display of numbers to cover mediocrity.
For those unaware, Hansal recently collaborated with Jai Mehta on his debut series, ‘Lootere’. The survival thriller stars Rajat Kapoor, Vivek Gomber, Amruta Khanvilkar, and Aamir Ali in the lead roles. It was released on March 22.
Apart from this, Hansal has a film with actress Kareena Kapoor Khan. In the same interview, the director said that this is going to be Bebo’s best work so far. More details about the project are being kept under wraps.
