Since its premiere on March 9, ‘Queen of Tears’, starring the duo Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Ji Wonhas captured the hearts of viewers and dominated discussions as the most buzzworthy drama of the season. The excitement reached new heights on April 15 when tvN, the drama’s original broadcasting network, proudly announced that ‘Queen of Tears’ had clinched the title of the highest-rated K-drama in tvN’s history, boasting an impressive 23.072% viewership rating from households in the Seoul metropolitan area.
This achievement comes on the heels of the drama’s previous success over ‘Goblin’, securing its position with 20.7% rating. All eyes were then on the beloved ‘Crash Landing on You’, penned by the same screenwriter Park Ji Eun. However, the latest update delivered that ‘Queen of Tears’ indeed surpassed even ‘Crash Landing on You’, which now occupies the second spot with a viewership rating of 22.677%. As the rankings reshuffle, ‘Goblin’, featuring Gong Yoo, Lee Dong Wook, and Kim Go Eun, gracefully steps down to the third position with a still commendable rating of 21.575%.
‘Queen of Tears’ is set against the backdrop of the stormy married life of Hong Hae In, a chaebol heiress of Queens Group, dubbed the ‘queen of department stores’, and Baek Hyun Woo, the legal director of a large conglomerate. Kim Soo Hyun portrays the role of Baek Hyun Woo, while Kim Ji Won brings Hong Hae In’s character to life.
Additionally, two special episodes of ‘Queen of Tears’ offering behind-the-scenes insights into the making of the drama will be released following the conclusion of its original run on April 28. And the next episode of the drama is slated for release on April 21 at 9:10 pm KST (5:40 pm IST).
