To attend the trailer launch event of the series, Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha and Aditi Rao Hydari jetted off to New Delhi.During an interview with IndiaToday. In, they discussed if competition amongst female actors still occurs when they collaborate.
Manisha Koirala, who was pitted against Madhuri Dixit back in the day, reminisced about her earlier years. She shared, “I did a film called ‘Lajja’ and, in that film, Madhuri Ji was there, Rekha Ji was there, so many other people were there. We had phenomenal bonding. So, sometimes people would write (about fights) and we would not bother to clarify. But I think today, times have changed. Ladies have come forward and so much awareness is there. And in today’s time, I don’t think it goes that well with the audience that women are fighting.”
Sonakshi Sinha had a different take when it came to female performers who competed while on set. The actress said that she believes that the only way it has always been is that it would happen less and more would be written about it. She also acknowledged that the entertainment industry is all about providing entertainment, and those who write about it also aim to entertain. However, she expressed that working with a set of women like this has been a complete pleasure for her. She emphasized that her experience on set has been smooth sailing, wonderful, and supportive and she thoroughly enjoyed it.
Aditi Rao Hydari, who has collaborated with Sanjay Leela Bhansali for the second time in ‘Heeramandi: Diamond Bazaar’ after working together for the first time in the 2018 film ‘Padmaavat’, also commented on the topic. The actress said, “People thrive on negativity, they like masala masaledar situations, but actually that doesn’t happen. And also, I feel we are all aware of our uniqueness, of each other’s uniqueness, and I think we genuinely celebrate it and it’s fine. You won’t find any sensational news about any person sitting here because that’s just how we are as artists. Work speaks before all the background noise, all the gossip, all the masala that people try to stir up.”
‘Heeramandi: Diamond Bazaar,’ which is set against the backdrop of pre-independence India, is a stunning fusion of all things magnificent. This eight-episode series centres on the rivalry between arch-nemeses Mallikajaan (Manisha Koirala) and Fareedan (Sonaskhi Sinha), as they vie for control of Heeramandi, a realm ruled by courtesans in the form of queens. The series is set to stream on Netflix from May 1.
