The film starring Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi in the lead, has already checked itself on the list of the most expensive films ever made in India. In a first, the mythological film will have a staggering budget of USD 100 million, just for ‘Ramayana: Part One’.
Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, an insider revealed, the creators of are pulling out all stops to transform the film into a global spectacle. Explaining the huge budget of an estimated Rs 835 crore, the source told the portal, “Namit Malhotra intends to escalate this investment as the franchise expands. The objective is to immerse the audience in a visual feast, with Ranbir Kapoor portraying the iconic role of Lord Ram.”
Ranbir Kapoor, renowned for his role in the 2022 blockbuster ‘Brahmastra’, which boasted a budget of Rs. 450 crores, is now poised to not only surpass his own record but also set unprecedented benchmarks for Hindi cinema with ‘Ramayana’.
The only other film with a budget that surpasses the Rs 500 crore mark are the Prabhas and Deepika Padukone starrer ‘Kalki 2898 AD', 'Adipurush' and 'RRR‘.
‘Ramayana’ will have a staggering 600 days of post-production work. The substantial investment will be utilised to craft some of the most ‘innovative visual spectacles’. The objective is to elevate Indian cinema to a global scale.
‘Ramayana’ also starring Yash, went into production last month, with stars commencing their shoot at a studio in Mumbai. The film is reportedly eyeing a 2026 release.
