Mani Ratnam‘s ‘Yuva‘ which released in 2004 is set to complete 20 years this week. The film continues to be a memorable one for its story, performances and music. It starred Ajay DevgnEsha Deol, Abhishek Bachchan, Rani Mukerji, Vivek Oberoi and Kareena Kapoor Khan. As the film is set to celebrate two decades, Vivek recalled memories on the movie in a recent interview.
Vivek recalled that he had a horrible accident on the sets of the film and had broken his leg into three pieces. ‘Yuva’ had released a year after Vivek had reportedly broken up with Aishwarya Rai. But as he cherished memories on the movie at the moment, he called Abhishek his ‘buddy’ and shared how Ajay and Abhishek were by his side all through. Vivek told Times Now, “A perfectly fun day turned into pain with a terrible motorcycle accident breaking my left leg in three places. I remember my big brother Ajay and my buddy Abhishek at my side, carrying me to the hospital, being my side through the agony of broken bones tearing through my skin with blood everywhere.”
Seeing Vivek’s accident, Mani Ratnam had a heart-attack, revealed Vivek. He further added, “Worse was yet to come. I came to know Mani Anna had a heart attack after witnessing my accident. Whilst both of us were recovering in the hospital, Ajay and Abhishek were with me, lifting my spirits with jokes and painkillers in a not-so-lucid state.” Vivek said it took him four months to recover.
He went back on the set limping and finished shooting for the songs ‘Fanaa’ and ‘Anjaana Anjani’. But now when he thinks of it today, Vivek wonders how he pulled it off.
Meanwhile, Abhishek got a lot of accolades and awards for ‘Yuva’. His chemistry with Rani in the movie and the song ‘Kabhi Neem Neem’ were loved immensely.
