Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukerji starrer ‘Hum Tum’ has clocked 20 this Tuesday, May 28. The film directed by Kunal Kohli continues to win hearts even two decades after its release. However, did you know that Saif Ali Khan wasn’t the first choice for the film?
Yes, you read that right. The director had approached Aamir Khan and Hrithik Roshan prior to Saif Ali Khan.The film released in 2004 was inspired by the 1998 film ‘When Harry Met Sally’. In a recent interview with Indian Express, Kunal Kohli revealed that he had approached Aamir Khan and Hrithik Roshan for the role. The director shared that Aamir Khan was going through his divorce with Reena, and told him that he is not in the frame of mind to do the film. Aamir Khan reportedly said, “I am not even in that frame of mind right now. It is a rom-com, I am not sure, I will give it a miss.”
The director further added that later Vivek Oberoi was going to do the film, however, things didn’t work out as expected. He also recalled that after ‘Mujhse Dosti Karoge’, he narrated the script to Hrithik Roshan. Hrithik liked the script, but the actor wasn’t sure about the role, and also about the films he was working on at the time.

Eventually, Saif Ali Khan got roped in to play the lead role, and the rest is history.
