Ajay Devgn and Tigmanshu Dhulia to collaborate on a film based on the life of Palwankar Baloo, the first Dalit cricket player in India | Hindi Movie News

Actor Ajay Devgnwho recently starred in the sports-drama film ‘Maidaan’, might soon embark on another project based on sports. According to reports, the ‘Singham’ actor is working on a film that is based on the life of Palwankar Baloothe first Dalit cricket player in India. Film producer Priti Sinha revealed this information on X.
Priti shared a tweet that read, “We, @ajaydevgn, @dirtigmanshu, @pritisinha333 are producing Baloo Palwankar’s story based on @Ram_Guha sir’s book A Corner Of A Foreign Field.We will bring the story of this great cricketer on film soon.” However, an official confirmation on the same is awaited from both Ajay Devgn and Tigmanshu Dhulia.
The book which is being taken as the base of this movie offers a historical account of cricket in the Indian subcontinent. It goes beyond the mere chronicles of the game and also features cricket legends like C. K. Nayudu and Sachin Tendulkar. Remarkably, it also examines the surprising significance that historical personalities like Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Mahatma Gandhi played in the cricketing narrative.
In this book, Guha explores the careers of English cricket players like Lord Harris and D. R. Jardine to illuminate the workings of the British Empire. He also introduces readers to India’s first great slow bowler, Palwankar Baloo, whose life is a reflection of the continuous fight against caste discrimination.
In case you are not familiar with Palwankar Baloo, he was a legendary sportsperson belonging to the Dalit community who began his career as a groundsman for a cricket team in Pune. After Baloo was selected to perform at the Hindu Gymkhana in 1896, his life began to inspire people all over the world.
On the work front, Ajay Devgn’s last Maidaan was also a biopic based on the life of football player Syed Abdul Rahim. He was also seen in Vikas Bahl’s horror thriller film ‘Shaitaan’ alongside Jyotika, R Madhavan and Janki Bodiwala. He will be next seen in Rohit Shetty’s ‘Singham Again’, which is scheduled for release on August 15, 2024.
