Film maker Imtiaz Ali has recently spoken about reading the Bhagavad Gita as a child, and its impact on his life. In a recent podcast with Ranveer Allahbadiathe ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’ director spoke about reading Bhagavad Gita as a child, and how easy it was to understand the Hindu scripture.
Imtiaz Ali took a walk down memory lane and reminisced about the time when he was in a bookstore in a railway station, and happened to buy the Bhagavad Gita, as it was the only book he could afford.The filmmaker also expressed that it was quite ironic that Bhagavad Gita was the only book he could afford in the bookstore, with the pocket money he had.
“It was a thick, small book. So, I thought I will buy this, it was the only thing I could afford,” he said. He further spoke about how he began reading and it was so easy to understand. Imtiaz Ali also revealed that, ever since then, he would read a few pages of the Bhagavad Gita every day, and it has turned out to be an important thing in his life. “It has been the small book that has always been kept on my side table,” he said. He also added that it was miraculous that he was introduced to Bhagavad Gita.

The filmmaker also recalled reading Rig Veda. He also added that he reads other religious scriptures as well as he is ‘deeply entertained’ by them.
